This year, events have gone virtual! Welcome to our virtual community where we’ve designed “Habithon” to help raise urgently needed funds to support local families and affordable homeownership in our community!
What’s a Habithon?
Welcome! Habithon 2020 is our virtual community events platform to help raise urgently needed funds to build affordable homes in our community. Habithon is meant to be done YOUR way. At anytime you can walk, run, hike, bike, bake, read, learn, clean, paint, build, dance or whatever you want! Do an activity you love for a day, week, or month. Encourage your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbours to join the cause, either by joining your team or by making a donation. Plus, join us online presentations with special guests and learn more about the impact YOU make through affordable homeownership in our communities.
Participate, raise funds, and watch how you and your teammates empower a local family to build a better life for themselves.
Step by Step Guide:
1) YOU choose your activity, it’s YOUR Habithon!
You can walk, run, bike, wheel, read, learn, bake, make, dance, skip, paint, jump, sing your heart out, downward dog all day, clean, meditate or even dream your way into any kind of Habithon activity! Your fun (and safe) choice of activity is completely up to you (our FAQ has even more activity ideas!). Be creative and have fun with your teammates and be sure to invite everyone you know to support YOU and affordable homeownership in our community.
2) Create or join a Team and Set your Fundraising GOAL
Register as a Team Captain (or join a Team) and work together to create a unique Team name picture, or theme. Have fun and be creative! Set your Team fundraising GOAL and promote, promote, promote!
3) Collect online and in-real-life donations and pledges
Get support from coworkers, family and friends, while moving through the month of November with your activity (or activities) and choose your Team’s style for competition.

Do you believe that everyone deserves a safe, decent place they can afford to live in? A place that is a safe haven against the storms of life? With more than 1.7 million Canadians in housing need, there’s a housing crisis and a need for us to work together to help solve it. Habitat Brant-Norfolk helps to close the gap by providing an affordable homeownership model for working families and individuals with a low or moderate income. We work together with volunteers, donors, community partners, professional and skilled tradespeople, all levels of government, neighbours, and homeowner families to build safe, decent and affordable homes in Brant-Norfolk. Let’s build stability, strength and resilience together, with more people living and thriving in an affordable home of their own!
Who we help:
Safe affordable housing is out of reach for far too many people in our community. Through affordable homeownership, we help people who are dealing with inadequately maintained rental housing, unhealthy or overcrowded conditions, inaccessible housing, or other shelter challenges that cause constant instability, stress, and fear. Habitat homeowners are willing to help build their own home and the homes of others. They work to develop pride in their home and their community. To date, there have been 22 Habitat homes built and two retrofitted in the City of Brantford. We also completed our first Habitat home in the Town of Simcoe in 2016. Recently, we poured the foundation on our second home build in Norfolk County: A three-bedroom, two storey home. The future Habitat homeowners, Sharon, Russ, and Krysten, are eager to see the construction of their home advance rapidly as the days grow shorter and the nights grow colder. How do I raise money?
Click here to register and then connect and share directly through your very own campaign website to family, friends, coworkers, social media followers, or anyone else! It’s easy peasy! Let them know that you are participating in a virtual fundraising event with Habitat for Humanity Brant-Norfolk and ask for their support. They can choose to simply donate through your campaign page or join the event. Be
sure to share your personal fundraising page so your fundraising is credited to you or your team. A tax receipt is automatically sent by email for every donation.
When you register you will be given the option of registering individually, creating a Team and becoming a Team Captain, or joining an existing team. Along with your individual fundraising goal, your team also has a group fundraising goal to work toward. Donations can be directed to individuals or to the team, and donations to individuals will also count towards team goals. Though you do not have to complete your activities together, or even at the same time, we encourage you to motivate each other and share the experience.
With the participation of your team, we hope to raise $50,000 to help complete our Norfolk County build and get the family moved in as soon as possible! We encourage participants to raise $250 or more. Teams that raise at least $5,000 will be eligible to book a TEAM Build Day on one of our sites alongside our future Habitat homeowners and build crew, the quintessential Habitat for Humanity experience!

How will the money be used?
All of the money raised locally through Habithon will go towards building safe, decent, and affordable homes right here in our own community in partnership with local families. We have four active build projects in Brantford, Brant County, and Norfolk County that you can check out here. You can choose which build area your donation will support, or you can designate funds towards the area of greatest need.
